“There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it’s going to be a butterfly”. Buckminster Fuller, 20th C American architect, systems theorist, author, designer, inventor, and futurist

One day, while garage-sailing in my Santa Monica neighborhood, I came upon a large cardboard poster of the Hindu goddess Lakshmi and purchased it for $5.00. Lakshmi represents a divine maternal force that bestows blessings of beauty, fertility, good fortune, and contentment.

Because I truly aspire to be such a bringer of blessings –– in my own particular way ––

I placed the poster near my prayer and meditation altar. And I would look into Lakshmi’s eyes for reflections and directions just as I would look into the eyes of characters on Tarot decks when doing readings for clients at the first Psychic Hotline (circa 1995).

On one particular occasion when I was feeling especially lonely, discouraged and distraught, I turned to Lakshmi and asked for her guidance, then dutifully wrote it down. The other day, I found what had flowed so effortlessly through my fingertips onto the page –– on 9/27/09. And because the words feel so relevant and timeless to me now, I thought I would share them with you –– in case you, too, might find encouragement in these channeled words. Here they are:

Hold on to your dreams through the dark passages

and let them serve as your Guiding Light.

Refrain from judging yourself or your life

as positive or negative, advance or retreat.

In the heat of battle

there is no telling loss from advantage.

Trust the course of you’re your High Intentions

and know that the winds must one day carry you Home ––

to the absolute fulfillment of your dreams for Sacred Service.

You’ll arrive

–– there is no telling when ––

but your craft will carry you there.

Navigate by prayer

and trust the strength that you are gaining

to hold True North when the winds are blowing fiercely

and seemingly against you.

They are your friends, conditioning you

for the strength you’ll need in victory

by chastening the ego and the Will

as apparent adversaries.

Your Will is honed

sometimes by arctic winds

in which you stiffen your resolve

to stand firm –– yet stay flexible ––

and allow your gifts to give themselves

through the way you have become

in service to carrying them forward.

Don’t frighten off the pain

or affirm it out of your awareness.

You are on the leading edge

where the winds can blow most fiercely.

Embrace and imbibe

this strengthening draught.

Allow it to infuse your Spirit;

for the winds beat hardest

when we are nearest

to our Home.

Welcome what feels

like the dying of your heart

and let it not discourage you.

A rebirth always comes to take its place.

And for those with the highest intentions

even the fiercest demon most become a friend.

Be Beloved –– to your self.

Behold the boldness of your high pursuits

amidst the great abyss from which you have emerged.

Know that such bold Souls win ––

no matter what the outcome.

Chart your course with your pen

like the poet/nightingale you are.

For no matter what the weather

–– inside or out ––

Holiness attends you.

Carry the torch for yourself

And others will arrive to help you

get where you are going.

The Greatness and Beauty

inside that seeks expression

and won’t be silenced

is a cry of the Heart

that seeks union in service ––

Always to Love.
